After she completed high school, she was offered an all-inclusive tuition grant to the University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double degree in psychology and Sociology. Contractor got her first part in the midst of her university year. Her work was highly acclaimed for the 92 shows that she performed in. She was awarded the 2002 award for the best production of the Year by Canadian Critics. She was offered the opportunity to join Stratford Conservatory. It allows only eight males and four woman to study traditional theatre. Contractor eagerly accepted. Her place in the upcoming play season was secured and she was offered the part of Hermia.
